A respite visit at Wayne County Nursing Home & Rehab Center can be a short visit, but make a lifetime of difference. A respite stay can be for a couple of weeks, a month, or even longer. It is perfect for getting back on your feet after a hospital stay and when family caregivers will not be home due to a vacation or work commitment. It is also a great break for caregivers who need a little rest and support.
A respite stay includes all the services and amenities available to our long-term residents: a safe, friendly place to stay; high-quality, 24-hour nursing care and supervision; assistance with activities of daily living; meals and snacks; and participation in our engaging calendar of activities.
What Are Respite Services?

  • Respite is a short stay program that cares for a person so his/her regular caregiver can have some time without caregiving responsibilities. Under Medicaid rules, individuals may use up to 42 days of respite care in a 12 month period.

Who is eligible for this program?

  • Needs 24 hour care/supervision
  • Individuals who are at least 16 years old

How is the program paid for?

  • Active Medicaid (This is arranged through the Department of Social Services)
  • Private Pay

What is included?

  • Aide assistance-personal care, supervision, guidance and direction
  • Personal Laundry
  • Medication administration
  • Meals and Snacks
  • TV and phone
  • Leisure Activities
  • Medical management of health conditions
  • Case management of needs
  • Linens, supplies and equipment

What Should I bring?

  • Medications needed for the length of stay
  • Clothing for 5 days
  • Personal belongings (reading material, puzzle books, etc)

How to apply?

  • Application
  • Medical assessment from primary care physician and medication orders
  • TB skin test within 1 year
  • PRI and Screen (nursing assessment) through home care agencies such as Wayne Community Nursing, Lifetime Care, or Visiting Nursing Service of the Finger Lakes
  • Copy of insurance cards, power of attorney and Health Care Proxy
  • Agreement for services
